To prepare for my 3rd Gamma Knife Surgery on 8/3/21, I took a walk the day before. Walking is very therapeutic. It is also a great way to find the privacy to talk to God. I needed to unburden before Him the tremors rumbling in my heart.
When Jesus was here, He healed many people. He went about not just doing good but BEING good. Because He is God, He can do both. I like that.
I must admit, I was in a place surrounded by many good people. I’m so thankful for them. It was comforting to be prepped for surgery by 3 very capable nurses, to be medically cared for by 2 competent doctors (Neurologist and Radiation Oncologist) and to be supported by a geeky Physicist. He made sure the Perfexion machine will hit the lesion, nothing else.
A nurse made sure I got a minimal dose of Fentanyl, as I’ve requested. This meant some good amount of pain during the drilling of the “helmet” on my head. The Neuro was really impressed that I took the pain very well. No whining, no shrieking and no crying.
But why?
Well, Fentanyl is an opioid with many side effects. One of them: “brain changes”. Ironic, isn’t it? It fixes the pain but it also creates problems. I wanted just enough of it. Believe it or not, after surviving the momentary pain, I felt better. No headaches, no digestive distress and no dizziness.
I walked again today and thanked God for this unique experience.
"O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is GOOD, for his mercy endureth forever. "
